Could Dyson Finally Bring Household Robots to the Masses? | Make Use Of

Dyson is hiring more engineers to develop a robot to assist with household chores.

The business behind the Dyson brand intends to develop home robots that are superior to humans at doing domestic activities. The company employed 1,000 engineers, scientists, and programmers in 2022 and anticipates adding at least 950 robotics professionals over the next five years. One of its robots can be seen in the video above cleaning an armchair, while another handles dishes in the kitchen and picks up a stuffed animal off the floor. A robot with several functions is the holy grail of robotics.

It is unknown if Dyson intends to use its engineers to develop a succession of specialist robots or a general-purpose robot due to its extreme secrecy. Nevertheless, based on its primary focus on machine learning and Artificial Intelligence, we predict that Dyson will develop robots capable of performing a restricted range of activities.

New ‘socially aware’ robot can predict what people will do | Tweaktown

A new way for robots to navigate the globe without clashing with humans

University of Toronto (U of T) researchers have developed a new approach for robots to navigate the environment without clashing with humans. Their robot employs Spatiotemporal Occupancy Grid Maps (SOGM) to anticipate the movement of emotional barriers, such as humans, across time. LIDAR functions similarly to radar but use light beams rather than radio frequencies.

TOP 10 TYPES OF ROBOTICS PROJECT IDEAS FOR STUDENTS IN 2022 | Analytics insight

In 2022, Aspiring Tech Savants Should Consider the Following Robotics Projects

Robotics is rapidly becoming one of the most coveted job paths for technology aficionados. These are just a few of the best robotic project ideas that tech enthusiasts may pursue in 2022. Mobile robots may be “autonomous” (AMR = autonomous mobile robot) because they do not need physical or electromechanical direction. Surveillance robots are used to monitor the behavior, actions, and other changing data collected to control, guide, or safeguard one’s assets or position. An android application is utilized in this project to transmit human instructions to the microcontroller.

The voice control robot is a realistic demonstration of how to control the movements of a basic robot using voice commands. Wireless control of the Arduino-based Robot is possible using any Wi-Fi-enabled Android smartphone. Bluetooth Controlled Robotics is the process of controlling robots by signals sent from a smartphone via an Android application and Bluetooth communication. This project aims to construct a firefighting robot equipped with several flame sensors. It might be used in conjunction with firefighters to help lessen the danger of victim harm. A Raspberry Pi is a tiny computer that connects easily to the Internet and can communicate with various hardware components.

How to compete with robots | Tech Xplore

Career automation and which jobs are most at risk from robots

Roboticists from EPFL and the University of Lausanne have identified which occupations are most vulnerable to automation. They’ve created a mechanism for advising career transfers to less-risky positions that need less retraining. The study’s primary novelty is a new mapping of robot capabilities to work needs. A team of experts at the University of Lausanne has evaluated the probability of a robot doing each existing profession. “Physicists” are least likely to be replaced by machines, while “Slaughterers and Meat Packers” are most likely.

Employment in food processing, construction and maintenance, and extraction pose the most significant hazards. A team of academics at the University of Edinburgh has built an algorithm that forecasts the likelihood of automation for hundreds of occupations and offers complete career transitions that need little retraining. They simulated hundreds of career changes based on the algorithm’s predictions to see how it might work in real life. Governments might use the approach to determine the number of people in danger of automation and change retraining programs, businesses to assess the costs of further automation and the general population to choose the most straightforward path to repositioning oneself on the labor market.

California start-up sends tiny robots on voyage into brains | France 24

Bionaut Labs intends to conduct the first human clinical trials for small injectable robots in less than two years. Magnetic coils implanted outside the patient’s skull are connected to a computer, which can navigate the micro-robot into the damaged area of the brain remotely and sensitively. If successful, the procedure could be used to treat children with Dandy-Walker Syndrome, a rare brain malformation.

Bionaut Labs received licenses from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), paving the path for clinical studies to treat Dandy-Walker Syndrome and malignant gliomas. The micro-robots will be used to “surgically” inject anti-cancer drugs directly into brain tumors. Currently, available treatment approaches include dosing the whole body with medications, resulting in significant side effects and a loss of efficacy.
