The Space Force announced that a new constellation of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance satellites for moving target indication is currently in development but declined to reveal the system’s cost or any primes engaged in its distribution. General Jay Raymond, the head of the Space Force, announced at the McAleese Conference that the service plans to assist the Air Force, Navy, and Army by supplying ground moving target indicators (GMTI) satellites to enhance target recognition, tracking, and surveillance. The constellation of GMTI satellites is expected to broaden the US military’s dependence on JSTARS (Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System) aircraft, which perform the majority of the US military’s GMTI.
Recently, soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division put the Robotic Combat Vehicle into two weeks of live-fire training. This is in line with the Army’s development of robot fighting buddies to operate alongside its Next-Generation Combat Vehicle. The live-fire was conducted by soldiers from Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, from Fort Benning, Georgia, in late April at Camp Grayling, Michigan. On the “Project Origin” platform, the troop went through various live-fire drills. The platform is a dummy device that the Army is testing as part of its RCV development. The very same soldiers used the device in November, experimenting with autonomous driving, the drone system, and the smoke module.
Gaming visuals have advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, and although several games already seem to be extremely realistic, one mod might have just won the prize for being the most believable. Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) now looks almost lifelike thanks to this upgrade. Stephan Richter, Hassan Abu AlHaija, and Vladen Koltun worked together to create an amazing photorealistic view of the popular game, using machine learning to their advantage. This type of AI-based system, according to the team, will not be introduced to the gaming environment anytime soon because it needs a lot more images and videos as examples before modifying full games.
The Department of Defense is perplexed. Countless guides and collaborative papers, as well as various surveys, reports, journals, and official testimony, attest to the value of knowledge and power in today’s operating environment. Despite this pattern, various military industries have embraced radically different concepts of information’s position in competition and war, resulting in a splintered interpretation of how the military should interpret information functions. As the US braces for an age of emerging great power rivalry, the ongoing uncertainty within the Defense Department about the nature of “intelligence operations” is putting the country up for a fall. Far from being a theoretical question of service meanings, this issue directly impacts the military’s capacity to efficiently fight aggressive influence attempts and form the global operational environment in ways that benefit the US.
