Russia ditches 20-year-old space station module to clear way for lab’s arrival |CBS News

The two-decade-old Pirs airlock and docking chamber were removed from the International Space Station by a Russian Progress cargo ship early Monday, clearing a path for the delivery of Russia’s new Nauka multifunctional lab module on Thursday. At 6:55 a.m. EDT, the Progress MS-16/77P supply ship was instructed to return from Pirs, with hooks and latches securing the docking container to the Zvezda service module’s Earth-facing port commanded open. The Progress activated its engines at 10:01 a.m., setting up a 41-minute devastating descent into the air after relocating a reasonable distance.

Meet Robbox, the robot that schleps a half-ton of supplies for special forces | Popular Science

Sera Ingénierie, a startup run by a veteran, has received the robotics prize at the yearly SOFINS (Special Operations Forces Innovation Network Seminar) in Bordeaux, France, for its Robbox mule. The goal of Robbox was to make life easier for special forces, but it had to be a solution, not just another item to worry about. The Robbox vehicle resembles a 1,500-pound four-wheel-drive jeep with no canopy. It measures around 5 feet wide by 11 feet long and has a carrying capacity of 1,100 pounds of mission modules. The flat platform can also be mounted with a stretcher to quickly transport an injured soldier, similar to a robot being tested by the US Marines.

The School Attachment Monitor (SAM) is a computer application that utilizes machine learning and smart sensors to correctly analyze attachment in children. It was tested and applied by a research partnership team of child mental health and computing science specialists. SAM uses cutting-edge software that engages with children, beginning with warm-up exercises to acquaint them with the work. When contrasted to the judgments of specialists examining the same child’s information, researchers discovered that the SAM technology was able to quantify a child’s attachment precisely.

Senate defense policy bill looks to bolster DoD information warfare | Defense News

Senators drafting the yearly defense policy bill offered a slew of changes aimed at improving control of the Pentagon’s information warfare complex, which includes cyber, electromagnetic spectrum operations, and information operations. The Senate Armed Services Committee, unlike its House counterpart, meets annually behind closed doors and only released an overview of its completed edition of the National Defense Authorization Act last week, which was intense on new cyber stipulations in a way to bolster official capacity. Multiple new reports would also be required as part of this plan to assist the panel in having a better grasp of the potential threats.

Millennials make 25,000% returns on new crypto that blends gaming | The Economic Times

Millennials were drawn to Axie Infinity, a digital token that combines gaming and now has a market capitalization of over $2.5 billion. The gaming token, which was released in November 2020, has risen over 25,000% so far, implying that a 75,000-rupee investment ($1,000) would have grown to 250,000 rupees in just nine months. The cryptocurrency is one of the few outliers, having weathered the storms of May to reach a new all-time high, sitting around $42. After China initiated a large crackdown on the crypto business in May, the crypto market witnessed aggressive selling among many of the more well-known coins.
