The Space Force met its 18-month deadline to get up and running. Here’s what’s next. | For Force Times

Lawmakers’ idea to make Spare Force up and running in 18 months becomes a reality.

The Pentagon hadn’t introduced a new military service since 1947 before Congress established the United States Space Force in December 2019. The proposal was to be realized in just 18 months, according to lawmakers. This deadline was met by the Space Force earlier this summer. The focus now shifts from the initial organizational processes to the meat of becoming a capable warfighting branch. Starting in October, it will welcome soldiers, sailors, and Marines from outside the Department of the Air Force as its first guardians and will absorb some of their tasks.

Elon Musk unveils Tesla Bot, a humanoid robot that uses vehicle AI | CNET

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, presented the Tesla Bot, a humanoid robot that uses the same artificial intelligence as Tesla’s fleet of self-driving cars.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, presented the Tesla Bot, a humanoid robot that uses the same artificial intelligence as Tesla’s fleet of self-driving cars. During Musk’s presentation, a dancer costumed as a Tesla Bot did a rather weird dance, but no working version of the robot was shown. Tesla’s AI Day presentation ended with an unexpected unveiling, with Musk revealing scant specifics about the slightly eerie, Slenderman-like robot beyond a few PowerPoint slides. He expects the 5-foot-8-inch robot to weigh 125 pounds and be constructed of “lightweight materials.”

Machine learning links material composition and performance in catalysts | Phys.org

Machine learning was used by researchers at the University of Michigan to foretell how the contents of metal alloys and metal oxides influence their electrical properties.

Researchers at the University of Michigan used machine learning to forecast how the compositions of metal alloys and metal oxides affect their electrical structures, paving the door for cleaner fuels and more sustainable chemical industry. Understanding how the material will operate as a mediator, or catalyst, of chemical reactions, relies heavily on its electrical structure. The principal component analysis is a well-known machine learning technique that is covered in introductory data science classes. The model divides the density of states into two halves, which are referred to as major components. The oxygen stability of metal oxides and perovskites, a type of metal oxide, was accurately described by the model.

Inaugural Information Warfare Cruise Allows Midshipmen to Deep Dive on a Career as an Information Warfighter | DVIDS

Prior to service selection week, First Class Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) can now take a deep dive into the Information Warfare (IW) Community.

First Class Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) can now delve deeper into the Information Warfare (IW) Community before the service selection week when they will file for their desired designator after commencement. Midshipmen used to complete their summer training on a vessel, an airplane, a submarine, or a supply corps command. With the launch of the IW Community Cruise this summer, all of that changed. Future IW officers will be better prepared as they move through their academic training and ultimately join the fleet if an IW Community Cruise is provided.
