Watchdog expects delays to Space Force’s next missile warning satellites | Defense News

According to a recent Government Accountability Office report, the U.S. Space Force’s next generation missile warning constellation’s launch will likely be delayed beyond the original anticipated launch of 2025. The Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared constellation (OPIR) is being developed to eventually replace the Department of Defense’s main missile warning satellite program. The Next Gen OPIR will use a combination of infrared sensors in geostationary and elliptical orbits to detect missile launches from anywhere on Earth. The planned expenditure by Space Force on this program is $14.4b through 2025

HUD rolls out AI risk management platform to fight fraud in grant spending | Federal News Network

Argus, named for the Greek mythological monster who had 100 eyes, is the name of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s new machine learning risk management program that aims to reduce time spent manually monitoring HUD’s program grantees by 75%. There has been an increase in requests since the start of COVID-19 and Argus’s developers hope the process for reviewing grants will be cut down from four months to one. Although cutting down on fraud and waste are huge concerns during the pandemic, more than a third of federal, state, and local entities have yet to implement any sort of technology in their anti-fraud programs.

Is the current GPU market killing PC gaming? | Tech Radar

Due to a perfect storm of silicon shortages, production challenges caused by Covid-19, competition from Ethereum crypto miners, and record demand, pricing, and availability of highly wanted graphics cards are expected to increase as we enter Q4 of 2021. The graphics card market has been particularly volatile in the previous 12 months, just over a year since Nvidia released the Ampere family of cards, which AMD followed up with the release of its own Radeon RX 6000 in October 2020. Despite the fact that conditions improved marginally in Q3 following a crypto market drop, prices are already soaring again, with an average premium of 70% over MSRP in Europe.
