Artificial Intelligence Can Now Craft Original Jokes—And That’s No Laughing Matter | Time Magazine

Jon, advertised as a comedic act, is the invention of Naomi Fitter, an assistant professor in Oregon State University’s School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering. When a controller clicks a button, the little robot acts, telling the very same jokes in the same sequence as a seasoned comic in a low-rent Vegas casino. However, the robot’s behavior is more human than it appears. Jon is studying how to react to its crowd; it can now adjust the pace of its performance depending on the length of the viewer’s laughter and attach alternative answers to jokes dependent on the noise volume of the room.

New Tech Will Send Police Drones to Sites Where Guns Went Off | Futurism

According to a recent news release , Israeli police may soon have unmanned drones that go to sites where gunfire is heard. The California-based firm already has a contentious device that utilizes sound technology to sense gunshots and inform the police, and it’s now collaborating with Airobotics to develop drones that react to disruptions. The idea isn’t without its detractors. Axios just revealed that Denver cops are employing ShotSpotter, but they can’t show it cuts gun crime. According to new data, ShotSpotter alerts in Denver climbed by over 25% in 2021 compared to the previous year, while arrests only increased by 2%. The technology has been installed in over 100 cities across the world, and Denver isn’t the only one to have issues with it.

The Information Warfare Myth | Real Clear Defense

The Russian force buildup at Ukraine’s border might lead to a full-scale invasion. It might also be an attempt to compel NATO to discuss and accept some of Vladimir Putin’s demands for Ukraine’s future. But it does show that the effectiveness of information warfare in achieving political and security goals is vastly exaggerated. The military and national security communities in the United States should take notice. All combat strategies must, in the end, be proven to be effective. The long-term impacts of information warfare appear to be difficult to quantify. Maybe they’re primarily delusory. For the time being, information warfare is and will continue to be an enabling component of warfare rather than a primary endeavor.
