Katie Arrington, a senior cybersecurity employee in the Pentagon, has quit in protest over the Department of Defense’s recent ruling to relocate the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Program from the A&S office to the CIO’s office. Since May 2021, Arrington has been on administrative leave from her position as the Department of Defense’s (DoD) top information security officer for acquisition and sustainment (A&S). After she was suspected of inappropriately providing top-secret material to a DoD contractor, the CIO’s Gamma security clearance was revoked by the National Security Agency (NSA). Arrington claimed in her letter of resignation dated February 7 that her clearance denial was “influenced by politics” and that the accusations leveled on her were “false accusations” that had not been proven by DoD and NSA personnel.
