Using AI to automate tasks and improve productivity is a fantastic use of technology. AI has a lot of promise, but still has a long way to go before it can be called a reliable and credible alternative to human decision-making. Dr. Manuela M. Veloso, Head of J.P. Morgan AI Research, presented human-assisted AI as a link in the search for more resilient and reputable AI in a recent Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers webinar. Including a human in the process while AI explores data and requests assistance represents a new era that many have jumped on to speed up the deployment of AI. It’s time to accept that Human Assisted AI is required if we are to progress in building advanced AI systems. We must demystify AI as a building block and provide a mechanism for AI to identify when it requires assistance from its human partner.
