Singapore has begun trials with robots designed to patrol public spaces and deter bad behavior. The recognition of improper Covid safety measures, smoking in prohibited areas, and illegal bicycle parking have all been programmed into Xavier, the autonomous bot. A spokesperson said the robots will not be used for law enforcement but rather informing the public. Singapore has plans to have more than 200,000 police cameras in the city by the year 2030, double what they currently have.
