After Hyundai purchased a controlling stake in Boston Dynamics this past June, they have begun deploying BD’s dog-esque robot, Spot, to monitor worker’s safety on the production floor. The Spots Hyundai will use are equipped with a thermal camera and LiDAR sensing technology that will enable them to recognize people, doors, and obstacles among other things. Hyundai has said it plans to advance its robotic capabilities to improve its production facilities in the future, including self-driving vehicles and Urban Air Mobility solutions like personal air vehicles.
