Finding out the sector of cybersecurity you’re most passionate in is one of the most difficult aspects of switching to a new position in cybersecurity. Responsibilities have historically been divided into two “teams”: red and blue. Red teams are in charge of aggressive defense, which entails “attacking” a company using pen testing or social engineering to identify flaws. Defensive security, which encompasses incident management, computer forensics, and advanced threat, is the responsibility of blue teams. New team names have recently been introduced to identify role overlaps (for example, “purple” teams that handle both offensive and defensive security duties). You may learn more about the cybersecurity “color wheel” and what these positions include by looking at summaries online, such as Hackernoon’s.
