Space Force chief says he’s working on a declassification strategy, but offers scant details | C4ISRNET

In a speech in Washington on Wednesday, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Jay Raymond openly admitted and acknowledged that the classification regime impedes parts of the Space Force’s mission, in a statement saying “If you have everything classified, that really limits your ability to deter conflict.” The US Air Force and Space Force officials have voiced support for declassification in the past, but there’s been little transparency about what the services are actually doing to address over classification.

No One-Size-Fits-All Response to Space Attacks, Raymond Says | Air Force Magazine

‘There’s no such thing as a space war, it’s just war.” Chief of Space Operations Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond said during an event hosted by the National Press Club. Stating further that depending on the strategic context that’s going on in the world or how nations might choose to conduct operations in space is just integrated into a larger strategic conflict, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer for the type of actions taken by a satellite would be considered an act of war. The U.S. Space Force is the 6th independent U.S. military service branch, tasked with missions and operations in the rapidly evolving space domain. Since being signed into law and inaugurated, the Space Force is trying to drive that conversation to constrain bad behavior and shape a common understanding of what’s acceptable in orbit.
