Drone helps researchers find fresh water in sea at Easter Island | Mirage News

The efficiency of employing drones to detect freshwater sources on Easter Island has been established by researchers at Binghamton University, State University of New York. Freshwater is a limited commodity on Rapa Nui, as the island is known to its native inhabitants, despite being surrounded by a massive ocean. Because the pixel sizes are too wide to capture the coastal seeps in any detail, satellite imaging cannot be used to identify freshwater sources on Rapa Nui, according to DiNapoli. A drone, on the other hand, can gather high-resolution photographs while flying at lower altitudes.

US farmer cooperative hit by $5.9M BlackMatter ransomware attack | Bleeping Computer

NEW Cooperative, a farmers’ cooperative in the United States, was hit by the BlackMatter ransomware, which demanded $5.9m in exchange for not leaking stolen data and providing a decryptor. New Cooperative is an Iowa-based farmer’s feed and grain cooperative with more than sixty locations. The threat actors seek a $5.9m in a weekend ransomware attack, which will rise to $11.8 million if the ransom is not paid in five days. If a victim decides to pay, these ransom demands serve as a starting point for talks, which normally result in much lesser amounts.

Teleoperated, the Remotely-Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE Fires) system is a survivability-enhancing device of U.S. Marine Corps’ Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS). The fire control system is completely separate from the autonomous parts in that they still require full human authorization.
