A New Type of Hand Prosthesis Learns From the User, and the User Learns From the Prosthesis | Neuroscience News

Bionic Arm Interfaces Become More Robust Due to New Technology

Dennis Yeung, a Ph.D. student at Aalto University, and his research group have invented a new form of technology that improves the compatibility of a prosthesis with the severed region. Individuals with an amputated upper limb may operate the robotic prosthesis by contracting their residual muscles. Advanced prostheses include machine learning techniques to assist in interpreting these user-generated signals. These connections are often susceptible to external causes, such as sweat, and deteriorate with time. Unsupervised adaptive myocontrol (UAM) is a myoelectric interface that extracts natural motor synergies from multi-muscle data and adjusts to new user inputs in real-time.

UAM has been evaluated by a series of virtual target reaching activities done by healthy and amputee volunteers. Tests were done under normative and electrode perturbed settings to assess control robustness.

New food delivery robots’ debut on University of Idaho campus | KTVB

University of Idaho has some news campus workers, a fleet of autonomous food delivery robots. The 15 robot fleet is called by the name of Starfleet and is working for multiple food companies in the area. “We’re excited to bring this service to a wide array of our dining options,” said Cami McClure, assistant vice president for auxiliary services. “The university community is eager for on-campus dining delivery and now, with Starship Technologies, we are able to offer a fun, fast and friendly way to deliver.” The robots are capable of carrying the equivalent of 3 shopping bags.

The Vulnerability of AI Systems May Explain Why Russia Isn’t Using Them Extensively in Ukraine | Forbes

The fact that Ukraine is employing face recognition software to track down Russian attackers and identify Ukrainians slain in the current conflict is significant since it is one of the few known applications of AI in the fight. Ukraine’s military ministry started utilizing Clearview AI’s image software on Saturday after Clearview supplied it for free, according to the CEO of the controversial American face recognition startup Clearview AI. Artificial intelligence algorithms and a large amount of picture training data gathered from social media and the internet are said to be at the heart of the very sophisticated identification tool. Apart from Russian influence efforts with their much-discussed “deep fakes” and misinformation-spreading bots, many observers have been astonished by the Russian military’s lack of known tactical usage (at least publicly) of AI.

Palo Alto Networks CEO: I’ve never been worried about cybersecurity more than now | CNBC

NSA Director James Clapper declares that he has never been more concerned about cyber security. We’ve established a sizable firm focused on real-time protection in artificial intelligence, and we approach businesses from an attacker’s viewpoint rather than an insider’s. There will be acquisitions of startups and established cyber security enterprises and the purchase of established, more secure cyber security firms.
