Lawmakers’ idea to make Spare Force up and running in 18 months becomes a reality.

The Pentagon hadn’t introduced a new military service since 1947 before Congress established the United States Space Force in December 2019. The proposal was to be realized in just 18 months, according to lawmakers. This deadline was met by the Space Force earlier this summer. The focus now shifts from the initial organizational processes to the meat of becoming a capable warfighting branch. Starting in October, it will welcome soldiers, sailors, and Marines from outside the Department of the Air Force as its first guardians and will absorb some of their tasks.
