In its first year under new management, The U.S. Space Force’s Space Enterprise Consortium has accumulated $1 billion in contracts for prototyping efforts. From 2017 through 2020 the consortium issued just $856 million in contracts, but for FY 2022 the Space Force has requested $17.4 billion for the entire service. The consortium supports more than just Space Systems Command, it works with the Air Force Research Lab, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency and more. Bringing nontraditional communities and vendors into the sphere of Space Force has been a goal from the outset.
