New soft robot has optimized swimming properties | Slash Gear

Singapore University of Technology and Design researchers have merged two methodologies to establish a unified procedure for developing unique automated processes for designing and building customized soft robots. The soft robots were created to withstand a marine environment, and the method centered on customizing the fin structure to see how the alterations would affect the robots’ swimming ability. Researchers discovered that the improved composite fins were 50% faster than a counterpart with conventionally casted soft fins after improvement. It was also a fraction of a second faster than a robot with a rigid fin.
