Lawmakers want answers on US Army plans to protect vehicles from drones | C4ISRNet

According to the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee’s markup of the fiscal 2022 military authorization bill, issued July 28th, legislators want clarification from the Army on its strategy to equip combat vehicles with protective systems capable of defeating unmanned aircraft systems. For years, the Army has struggled to equip its Abrams tanks, Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and Stryker combat vehicles with passive protection systems. While the Army has been able to field an intermediate system on its Abrams tanks, it has slipped behind with the installment of an interim system on the Bradley. The project to equip Strykers with an APS has been put on hold because no system suitable for the platform has been found. For its combat vehicles, the Army is also developing an integrated vehicle protection system suite.

CISA launches vulnerability disclosure platform for federal agencies | Bleeping Computer

The federal civilian enterprise-wide crowdsourced VDP platform delivered by BugCrowd and EnDyna, which was first revealed in June, was created in favor of Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 20-01, which was released in September 2020. With the assistance of cybersecurity professionals all around the globe, the recently released VDP platform solution enables Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) organizations to find, detect, and close security flaws in vital systems. Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies will be able to collaborate with the security research community in a more efficient manner thanks to this crowdsourcing platform, and individuals reporting occurrences will have access to a single, easy-to-use website to submit their results.

Human assisted artificial intelligence: a pathway to trustworthy and unbiased AI | Forbes

Using AI to automate tasks and improve productivity is a fantastic use of technology. AI has a lot of promise, but still has a long way to go before it can be called a reliable and credible alternative to human decision-making. Dr. Manuela M. Veloso, Head of J.P. Morgan AI Research, presented human-assisted AI as a link in the search for more resilient and reputable AI in a recent Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers webinar. Including a human in the process while AI explores data and requests assistance represents a new era that many have jumped on to speed up the deployment of AI. It’s time to accept that Human Assisted AI is required if we are to progress in building advanced AI systems. We must demystify AI as a building block and provide a mechanism for AI to identify when it requires assistance from its human partner.
